Gujarat Postal Circle Addresses Staff Concerns Over LSG Promotions Amid Diwali Festivities

Ahmedabad, 28th October 2024

The Gujarat Postal Circle has issued an important clarification regarding the recent promotions to the grade of Lower Selection Grade (LSG), aiming to address the concerns and grievances raised by postal staff. In response to reports of discontent among employees promoted under the recent order (STA/18-41/2024/II dated 23rd October 2024), the office of the Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) has assured employees that individual cases will be considered with fairness and empathy.

Background and Employee Concerns

As Diwali approaches, staff unions and news outlets have highlighted employee dissatisfaction related to compulsory reassignments following LSG promotions. Employees cited relocation challenges during the festive season and emphasized the importance of considering personal circumstances. In response, the Chief PMG acknowledged these concerns, assuring staff that a fair approach will be taken for each employee affected by the promotions.

Representation and Grievance Submission

Employees who are reluctant to accept their current LSG placements have been invited to submit representations explaining their reasons for declining, especially if relocation is cited as a primary challenge. The Chief PMG emphasized that these representations would be evaluated on an individual basis, prioritizing employee welfare alongside operational needs.

All officials promoted to LSG have been encouraged to accept their promotions willingly, as it serves their long-term career interests. However, any officials who remain reluctant have been instructed to submit their representations by 8th November 2024. The letter highlights that no coercive measures will be taken against those unwilling to join the new positions, and divisional heads have been advised to forward any representations received promptly.

Staff Union Support and Forwarding Instructions

The office of the Chief PMG has extended a message of support for employees, underscoring a cooperative approach in resolving placement-related challenges. The Gujarat Circle Secretary of the BPEA (Group C) union has been informed of this development and is actively involved in supporting the well-being and fair treatment of staff.

With these measures, the Gujarat Postal Circle reaffirms its commitment to balancing organizational needs with the welfare of its employees, especially during the festive season.
