Central Government Holiday List 2027 Released: Complete List of Gazetted and Restricted Holidays
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, has officially released the Central Government Holiday List for 2027 through an Office Memorandum dated 16 July 2026. The notification specifies the Gazetted Holidays and Restricted Holidays to be observed by Central Government offices during the calendar year 2027.

The holiday list serves as the official reference for Ministries, Departments, Attached Offices, and other Central Government establishments across the country.
Holidays for Central Government Offices
According to the Office Memorandum, all Central Government offices located in Delhi/New Delhi will observe the holidays listed in Annexure-I. Employees will also be entitled to choose any two Restricted Holidays from the list provided in Annexure-II.
For Central Government offices located outside Delhi/New Delhi, 14 compulsory holidays will be observed. In addition, the respective Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee in each State will select three optional holidays based on local festivals and regional importance.

- Muharram – 16 June
- Independence Day – 15 August
- Janmashtami – 25 August
- Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti – 2 October
- Dussehra – 9 October
- Diwali – 29 October

Restricted Holidays
The notification also includes a list of 32 Restricted Holidays covering festivals and observances such as:
- New Year's Day
- Makar Sankranti
- Pongal
- Basant Panchami
- Maha Shivratri
- Ugadi
- Vaisakhi
- Rath Yatra
- Raksha Bandhan
- Ganesh Chaturthi
- Onam
- Karwa Chauth

Employees may avail Restricted Holidays in accordance with the applicable rules and departmental requirements.
Important Instructions
The DoPT has clarified that:
- No substitute holiday will be granted if a festival holiday falls on a weekly off or another non-working day.
- Holiday dates for festivals based on moon sightings, such as Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha, Muharram, and Id-e-Milad, may be revised if necessary.
- Central Government offices outside Delhi may modify the dates of these festivals based on decisions taken by the respective State Governments or Union Territories.
