India Post Resumes International Mail Booking for Several Countries; Services to Some Destinations Still Suspended
The Department of Posts has announced the partial resumption of international mail booking for several countries after improvements in the Middle East situation and the restoration of alternative transit arrangements. The decision comes through a Public Notice dated 22 July 2026, issued by the Ministry of Communications.

Earlier, international mail services to several destinations had been suspended due to force majeure conditions arising from the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, which severely disrupted air connectivity.
International Mail Booking Resumed
According to the latest notification, postal services to the countries listed in Annexure-A have been resumed with immediate effect. The Department of Posts has clarified that while booking has resumed, customers may still experience delivery delays beyond the prescribed service standards because of ongoing logistical challenges.
Services Continue to Remain Suspended for Some Countries
The Department has also stated that postal services to the countries listed in Annexure-B will continue to remain suspended until further notice. The decision has been taken because air connectivity and transit arrangements to these destinations have not yet been fully restored.
Facility for Customers Who Have Already Booked Mail
Customers who have already booked postal articles for destinations covered under Annexure-B, but whose articles have not yet been dispatched from India, can
- Submit a written application to the booking post office.
- Recall their postal article.
- Claim a refund of the postage paid.
This facility is available only for articles that are still within India and have not been transmitted abroad. Articles lying at the Offices of Exchange may be returned to the booking office through the prescribed procedure.
Department Monitoring the Situation
The Department of Posts has assured customers that the situation is being monitored continuously. Postal services to the suspended destinations will be restored as soon as suitable flight connectivity and transit arrangements become available.
Instructions for Postal Offices
A copy of the notice has also been forwarded to the General Manager (CEPT) with instructions to enable booking in POS, DNK, and IBC systems for all destinations included in Annexure-A.
Conclusion
This announcement brings relief to customers sending international mail to many overseas destinations. However, customers are advised to check whether their destination falls under Annexure-A (services resumed) or Annexure-B (services suspended) before booking international mail. Those sending mail to resumed destinations should also expect possible delivery delays until international logistics return to normal.
